Our story

A family name, kept since 1912.

Fratelli Ghibellini is a house of Peruvian fine goods: coffee, chocolate, olive oil and honey, each from the one corner of the country where it grows best.

I

The name

Fratelli, brothers.

Fratelli is Italian for brothers, and on labels it is written the old way: F.lli. The house was established in 1912.

The lion holding a flag with three stars comes from the Ghibellini family crest. It is foil-stamped in gold on every bag, bar, jar and bottle we make.

II

The idea

A delicatessen, made in Peru.

Peru grows some of the finest raw ingredients in the world, and most of them leave the country anonymous. We wanted to do the opposite: choose them one by one, keep their origin on the label, and give them the care of a great delicatessen.

We started with coffee and chocolate. Olive oil and honey followed. More will come.

III

How we choose

Tasted first, then trusted.

Every lot is tasted before it becomes ours. Our coffee is cupped by a quality-control specialist and scored on the specialty (SCA) scale — the current Espresso Blend lots scored 86 — and every product names the region, the place and, where we can, the family that grew it.

IV

The packaging

Every pack, a small painting.

Each product has its own illustration: a coffee face breathing in the steam, a wall of Andean faces for Café Cusco, and a whole cast of characters for the chocolate line. They are made to be kept on the shelf, and given away.

From the farm to your table

Every step, accounted for.

We follow each product from the people who grow it to the moment it reaches you, and we tell you exactly where it has been.

  1. I

    The farm

Smallholder families in Cutervo and San José de Lourdes grow Typica, Caturra and Bourbon at 1,750–1,800 m.

  2. II

    Picked by hand

Only ripe red cherries are picked, pass after pass through the harvest.

  3. III

    Washed and sun-dried

The cherries are pulped, fermented, washed and dried slowly in the sun.

  4. IV

    Cupped and scored

Every lot is tasted by a quality specialist. Ours scored 86 on the SCA scale.

  5. V

    Roasted

A medium-dark roast for espresso: dark chocolate, praline, orange peel.

  6. VI

    Sealed and sent

Packed in our illustrated bag and sent to your door.

  • Single origin

Every product names the region, the place and the altitude it comes from.

  • Named producers

We tell you who grew it, not just where.

  • Tested, not assumed

Our coffee is cupped and scored by a quality specialist before it is roasted.

  • Made to be given

Illustrated packaging, gold-foil lion, ready for the table or as a gift.

A family name, kept since 1912.

Fratelli Ghibellini — the Ghibellini brothers — was established in 1912. The lion, the flag and the three stars on every jar, bag and bottle come from the family crest. Today the name stands behind a small pantry of Peruvian fine goods, chosen with the same care.

The lion

The flag
